Gerard has been adjusting claims for more than 30 years and is a well-known business interruption specialist. During his career he gained experience in a large variety of industries. He has worked in (nearly) all European and North American countries both for Dutch and foreign insurers and insureds.
Gerard is frequently asked to make business interruption exposure / risk analyses for insurers and re-insurers. He has developed an approach, which facilitates better MPL and EML calculations for BI-exposures and contingency planning.
From the early beginning of public-private partnerships (PPPs), Gerard has been involved in Delay-in-Start-Up (DSU) insurances. He has been the nominated adjuster on a great number of DSU policies, such as the High Speed Railway in the Netherlands, numerous other infrastructural projects and the building of the largest sea-lock in the world that was built in IJmuiden and developed under a PPP contract as well.
On the basis of his professional experience, Gerard is receiving nominations as arbitrator and forensic expert on a regular basis. He has been working for the Courts of Justice of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Groningen, Roermond and Brussels (Belgium). Furthermore, he has been active as an instructor and teacher in several professional courses.
From 2005-2011, Gerard was President of the Dutch Institute of Chartered Adjusters (NIVRE).
He studied Economics and Business Administration at the University of Amsterdam. Before starting up his own company Context in 2009, he was Chief Executive Officer of the European division of Cunningham Lindsey. He started his career as management consultant at Perscombinatie N.V. (daily newspaper publishers) in the Netherlands, followed by Peat Marwick, Mitchell & Co (now KPMG). As a consultant, he specialised in finance and administration, cost reduction programmes and optimisation of business processes.
Gerard holds qualifications of the Dutch Institute of Chartered Adjusters (NIVRE) and the European federation FUEDI. He is fluent in Dutch (mother tongue), English, French, Spanish and German and has a good understanding of Italian.
